Virginia May (Butzke) McDonnell, devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, to be with her Savior Jesus Christ. Virginia was 91 years old and was admired and dearly loved by her family and friends. She was well known as Aunt Ginny and Gee-gee in later years. Virginia was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Milford High School in 1948. She was noted for her beautiful penmanship. She was an excellent cook, gardener, loved nature and picnics out in the front yard in warmer months. She spent countless hours crocheting afghan blankets for her family and was an avid reader. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Highland, Michigan. Virginia retired from General Motor Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan in 1993.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Lester H. Butzke and Mildred Patterson Butzke, her siblings Ralph (June) Butzke, Carolyn (Richard) Lorenz, Robert (Sandra) Butzke, her former husband Gerald J. McDonnell and loving granddaughter Sara Marie (Andy) Voyle.
She is survived by her children: Lester S. McDonnell, Thomas J. (Gwili) McDonnell, James A. (Victoria) McDonnell, Mark F. (Jill) McDonnell, Matthew G. McDonnell and Mary E. (Roger) Felipe; grandchildren: Gina (Esequil) Sanchez, Lester G. McDonnell, Chad (Denise Ad) McDonnell, Terasa (Craig) Bond, Audrey (Brad) Douglas, Wyatt (Jessica) McDonnell; great grandchildren: Destynee, Erik, Isaiah, Selena, AnaLia Sanchez, Monet, Madison and Carson McDonnell, Jacob and Hailey Bond, Hadyn McDonnell, Breeanna Voyle and Aiden Douglass; great-great grandchildren: Santiago Zamora, Erik Jr., Millie Anna, Aliyah Sanchez.
A memorial visitation for Virginia will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.

Come to meet her, Angels of the Lord! Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High. May Christ, who called you, take you to himself, may the Angels lead you to Abraham's side. Give her eternal rest, O Lord and may your light shine on her forever. Amen.
