Erika and Stewart,
I have fond memories of my visits to your family and home in Aspen back in the 1970's. Going for a walk in the Maroon Bells, eating fresh river trout that your dad caught, and swimming in the pool. A favorite memory is one where your mom and dad played a trick on me. Your mom had made cow tongue for dinner and didn't specify what it was. I thought it was meatloaf and it was delicious(!) so I asked for seconds, at which point the whole table laughed and fessed up. I think I still ate my second serving. I've never forgotten that, it's a memory I hold when trying new food. :-)
The picture I found and included here was when your family came to our home in McLean Va for a visit. Erika, I think you must be taking the photo. Not sure whose birthday it was, but I'm guessing my Dad because the cake is a sailboat.
I hope you are finding comfort in the stories that are being shared with you about your dad. May you find comfort and peace in the weeks to come as you remember your father and replay your fondest memories.
Much love, Gillian (& Greg too!)

Horst was a special member of the Summit View Vista Townhomes community. He always had a hug for me when all of us got together for our annual picnic, and gatherings for special occasions. Those of us without partners would go out for dinner on New Year's Eve and Valentines day, and then play cards at someone's house afterward. Most of the time Horst and I sat side by side to discard to each other and we all laughed when good cards were passed along. I will miss Horst very much.
To his family, I am sorry for your loss. Know that I am praying that you will find strength in God, family and friends to get through this sad time.
Sincerely, JeanAnn DiPaola
