Lou Ellsworth Schneider September 26, 1931 – February 24 2013 Lou Ellsworth Schneider, age 81, passed away February 24, surrounded by the beautiful majesty of the Colorado National Monument. He loved to visit the area, and since moving to Grand Junction over 18 years ago, Lou went there often with his wife to enjoy nature's splendor. Lou was born on September 26, 1931, in the small community of Chama, New Mexico, to John and Juanita Schneider. Juanita passed away when Lou was just a child, and he and his brothers were raised by his father's second wife, Mary Schneider. Lou's father worked on numerous large construction projects, and the family moved from one construction site to another, creating a very tight-knit and loving family. Lou joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old, and he began what would become his life's career. During a brief hiatus from the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Renée Lee, on September 23, 1955, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. They were later sealed in the LDS St. George Temple. They were married for 56 years until her death in June 2011. Lou returned to the Navy shortly after he and Renée were married. He rose up through the ranks of his profession. He retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer after 34 years of courageous and valiant service to his country, including many years of service aboard aircraft carriers during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Lou worked on the flight deck supervising the daily maintenance operations of the planes in his squadron. Lou is survived by his brothers, John (Margaret), and Charlie (Joan); sister-in-law, Karen Sant and brother-in-law, Kent Lee (Kahala); children, Lou and his wife, Carol; Brent and his husband, Kim; Craig and his wife, Jane; grandchildren, Ginny, James, Leanne, Laura, Ryan, Austin, Catherine and Sam, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Lou was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family members offer their sincere thanks to the community for helping when Lou was reported missing, as well as for all of the kind thoughts and prayers. A viewing will be held at Martin Mortuary on Sunday evening, March 3, from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 3076 E 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, Colorado. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the chapel, one hour prior to the service.
