Deloris Ann Fontenot, passed away August 14, 2022 in Dallas, TX. She was born January 30, 1942 in Corinth, Lincoln Parish, LA. To Brady and Gladys (Roberts) Bennett. She was fondly nicknamed, Losi, by her older brother, because he couldn’t say Deloris. Her friends in Dubach and Hico called her Losi as well.
The middle child of three, Deloris had an older brother, Ray Bennett and Francis Bennett was her younger sister. The love they had for one another was simply beautiful. They supported and cared for each other the way siblings should.
Deloris attended Hico High School in LA. Being as intelligent as she was, Deloris graduated Valedictorian of a large class of 7 students. Deloris had the voice of an angel. During her time in school, she competed in choir at a state level against other parishes. Her choir came in 1st one year and 2nd another year.
In 1957 Deloris began dating a handsome young man by the name of Richard Leon Fontenot. He soon became the love of her life and on June 23, 1961 they were married. Thus began the greatest of love stories. Soon afterward, Richard and Deloris moved to Dallas, TX.
Together they enjoyed a wonderful life together. Richard and Deloris spent some of their greatest times on carnival cruises where they traveled all over the East and West Caribbean and neighboring places. Deloris also enjoyed many hobbies including shopping on QVC and fishing. It was common knowledge that if you gave her a fishing pole, you would simply watch her and she’ll have dinner ready before you in the blink an eye. Other sports she was prolific at were basketball, bowling and billiards. While in school, she was on the bowling, billiards, and basketball teams. Being as short as she was, Deloris would simply just dribble between the legs of her opponents and make buckets.
From a young age, Deloris was always a hard-working woman. She first began as a waitress at the café owned by Richard’s mother. Serving customers breakfast and lunch by day, Deloris worked at the movie theatre at night, where she sold movie tickets and popcorn. In 1981 Deloris went to work for Mobil Oil until retiring in 2001.
The greatest accomplishment Deloris had was being a mother to her handsome, caring and loving son. Gregory Allen Fontenot, preceded his mother in death in 2015. Greg always knew how to put a smile on the most frowned face.
Deloris leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years, Richard Fontenot. The love they had for one another was stronger than anything in the world. Even after Deloris’ passing, their love remains unbreakable. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David Fontenot and his wife Paula; as well as Jorge Cavazos and his family, who were very close and special to Deloris and Richard. They were considered as their adopted family. Deloris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial Celebration of Deloris’ life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S Belt Line Rd., Grand Prairie, TX 75052.
