Lucy Eva Wilzin

November 17,1922-June 5, 2018

Lucy Eva Wilzin, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away to her heavenly home Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Matlock Place Nursing Home where she had been a resident since the end of January, 2018. She was born on November 17, 1922 in Pittston, Maine to Burton and Jennette Moulton and was raised on a farm in Pittston. She attended school and graduated from high school in Gardiner, Maine. Lucy was the youngest of five children; brothers Harry and Wilmer Moulton, and two sisters, Ruby Neswald and Dallas Seitz.

Lucy had many stories to tell of the harsh winters growing up in Maine and yes, she really walked 5 miles in the snow to school and back. As her story goes, in her late teens, she travelled on a bus to Texas with her sister, Dallas, because her siblings always passed the chores down the line to her. She met Julian Louis Wilzin in Dallas, Texas at her grandmother’s boarding house and they married on June 12, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas. After the war they settled and lived in Grand Prairie, Texas where she has lived ever since.

Lucy was a loving wife, homemaker and seamstress. She was also a loyal bank teller at Chase Bank in Grand Prairie for many years as the bank changed names from First National to First City Bank and finally to Chase Bank. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie where she served her Lord in the Master’s Builders and sang in the Senior Adult Choir. She had a fierce passion for her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren including their furry pets who she adored with all of her heart. She will best be remembered for her patience, perseverance, and wisdom as well as her quiet and gentle spirit.

She is survived by daughter Shirley Jones and son-in-law Travis Jones, and daughter Peggy Burum, grandchildren Jennifer Rathjen, Tiffany Whitaker, Nathan Burum (wife Carrie), Ryan Burum (wife Allison), and great grandchildren Hayden Whitaker, Baker Burum, Eliza Burum and Hunter Burum. She was preceded in death by husband Julian Wilzin, brothers Harry and Wilmer Moulton, and sisters Ruby Neswald and Dallas Seitz.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:30, Friday, June 8, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, Texas. Viewing will be 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bean-Massey-Burge Dignity Funeral Home on

Peggy, Lucy was a beautiful person, and I know that you and Shirley must have so many personal memories. May you both rest in Jesus’s arms of love as you fondly remember your mother, and know for a fact, that you will see her again in eternity. Love you all❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My sympathies to Aunt Lucy's family -- all of you meant so much to her. She was so proud of all of you and I know that you will miss her.

I still remember the first time I met her -- at the airport in Dallas in the 1970s -- and I knew her right away. She was a kind, strong woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She had a quiet dignity and was a joy to be around.

Love,
