Ola B. Monday
September 14, 1926 – January 16, 2020
Ola Gooch Monday graciously gained her wings, at the age of 93, on Thursday, January 16th, 2020 at Medical City Arlington, Texas with daughter, Rita and grandson, James by her side. Ola was born in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to Opal A. Stapleton and Hershel A. Ward on Thursday, September 14th, 1926.
She graduated from Gotebo High School, Oklahoma in 1944, and in that same year, married James L. Gooch. Together, they were blessed with two daughters. Carol was born October 19th, 1946 in Clinton, Oklahoma and Rita, eleven months later on September 21, 1947 in Hobart, Oklahoma. In 1962, Ola married James E. Monday. They lived happily for forty eight years until his passing in 2010. She then lived in Grand Prairie, Texas with her daughter, Rita, on and off from 2010, then permanently since 2013.
Ola had an incredible love of good ole country music and had a vast knowledge of the greats and their songbooks. She loved life, was high-spirited, was so beautiful inside and out, and was completely devoted to her family.
In the last several years, some of her favorite things were cheering on her Dallas Cowboys, lunching with girlfriends, spending time with her beloved family, and singing to her great grand puppy, Ollie. She had the voice of an angel. If you knew her, you loved her. She loved so much and was loved by so many. Ola was preceded in death by her parents, Opal A. Stapleton and Hershel A. Ward, siblings, Opal Ward Fenter, Willard Ward, Jack Ward and Don Ward, and husband, James E. Monday. She is survived by daughter, Carol Gooch Morgan and her husband John Morgan and daughter, Rita Gooch Smith, three grandchildren, Jimmy D. Morgan and wife Ivey, James J. Smith and wife Lesli, and Theresa Morgan and husband Roger. Ola is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
