Rudolph Stobb passed away peacefully September 19th, 2019 surrounded by family at Laurenwood Rehabilitation in Duncanville, TX after a long illness. “Rudy” was born 11/27/1929 in New London Connecticut to Anton and Elizabeth Stobb, of Dusseldorf and Itzehoe, Germany, respectively. Rudolph grew up in Astoria, NY, Germany, Union County, NJ, and Clinton, NJ and attended Clinton High School (Class of 1947). He started college at Lafayette in 1947 as a Pre-Medicine major, but changed to Mechanical Engineering, and transferred to Lehigh University in 1950, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1952. He earned his MBA from Lehigh University in 1971.
After his BSME, Rudolph worked in Venezuela for two years with Creole Oil. Rudolph returned to the United States, where he was drafted into the United States Army, and married the love of his life, Sally Hope Bloomfield in 1954. After basic training at Fort Dix, he served under the 9710 Test Unit, Detachment 3, Army Chemical Center, Aberdeen, Maryland as a Mechanical Engineering Assistant, and earned the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. After the Army, Rudy worked in various Engineering Positions, including Stobb, Inc, Kodak, Westfield Electronics, and the RCS Development Corp. He retired from M&M Mars, Incorporated in 1993 after 20 years of service.
Rudolph and Sally were married 65 years: they were married June 1st 1954 at the Presbyterian Church in Flemington, NJ, while Rudolph was on leave between basic training and assignment with the US Army. They raised five children: Mary Catherine Stahl, Elizabeth Anne-Marie Mourer, Charles Anthony Stobb, Theresa Maria MacLellan, and John Thomas Stobb; and were pre-deceased by four daughters: twins Deborah Alison and Diana Kathleen (1955), Katherine Victoria (1956), and Katherine Marie (1958). Rudolph and family rebuilt and substantially added onto a colonial house in Quakertown, NJ, where they had settled for 40+ years through early 2017, providing a comfortable atmosphere for his family. Rudolph and Sally converted to the Catholic Church in 1956. They were very active in their Catholic Faith, participating in the choir at St. Edward’s Parish in Racine, Wisconsin, helping to fund construction of Immaculate Conception Church and School in Annandale, NJ, and participating in the choir at St. Catherine of Sienna in Pittstown, NJ. Rudolph was active in his community, providing transportation for Meals On Wheels and rides to the elderly and homebound for Hunterdon County, NJ. For the last two years, Rudolph and his beloved Sally lived at Atria Assisted Living in Grand Prairie, TX, where they could be close to family. Rudolph settled in immediately to Atria, where his epic one liners and dry humor were a daily joy to all.
Rudolph is survived by his wife Sally, 5 Children, 17 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Wednesday September 25th 6-8 PM at the Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, with Rosary at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be held Thursday September 26th 10 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1111 W. Danieldale Road, Duncanville, TX. Interment will be held at 1 PM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas TX, in lane 1.
