Philip J. Fahling
June 2, 1941 – January 6, 2019
Philip John Fahling, loving husband, and father of three children, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019, at the age of 77. Philip was born on June 2nd, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Philip Henry and Matilda Emma (Kraft) Fahling.
On September 19th, 1964 he married Sharon Kay Worpel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conklin, MI. He worked for the US Postal Service for 30 years after entering the Air Force in 1964, serving one year in Thailand and finishing as staff sergeant upon his honorable discharge in 1968. Philip and Sharon joined and became members of Messiah Lutheran Church in October of 1970. Philip was an avid sports enthusiast with an obvious loyalty, albeit sometimes painful, to his beloved the University of Michigan Wolverines athletics, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Red Wings and last and most certainly least, the Detroit Lions.
Philip was preceded in death by his father, Philip and his mother, Matilda. As well as his siblings, Nathalie Budnik and Roland Fahling. He is survived by his wife, Sharon and their three children; James P. Fahling and Laurie L. Buskager, Jonathan P. and Anna M. Fahling, and Julie P. and Scott A. Jackson. He is also survived by his grandchildren; James and Alyssa Harrington, Avery Jackson, Cassidy Fahling, Nicholas Jackson and Maximilian Fahling. In addition, he is survived by his siblings; Waldo and Betty Fahling, Marvin and Betty Fahling, Christine Kantola, and Ruth Andrus; and numerous other friends and family who will miss him dearly.
Visitation for Philip will take place on Friday, January 11, from 5:00 - 8:00pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Funeral Service will occur on Saturday, January 12, at 11:00am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2727 5 Mile Rd. NE, Grand Rapids, 49525, with a Visitation an hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Pre-School or the National Kidney Foundation of MIchigan, 1169 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
