Larry John Heemstra

Larry John Heemstra, age 80, went to be with his Lord Friday, September 1, 2023. Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Trena Heemstra; parents, John and Florence Heemstra. He will be remembered by his second wife, Gerene Heemstra; children Steve (Carrie) Heemstra, Brian (Marijo) Heemstra, and Scott (Becki) Heemstra; 9 grandchildren; step-children Reggie, Cindy, and Chris VandenBosch; step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends, and his faithful companion, a golden retriever named Lemon. We are so grateful for the impact and legacy Larry has left.

Larry’s passion for music was obvious in his extensive collection of vinyl records, mostly blues and gospel. His old school ways were also apparent in his collection of tools and love of mechanical drawing. He enjoyed serving as a cadet leader for many years at Baldwin Street Church. He also loved the state of Michigan, spending many weekends camping and at Bill’s Lake. He was loved by his family and will be missed.

A celebration of Larry’s life will commence at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Georgetown Cemetery, 6921 28th Ave, Hudsonville, MI 49426. In honor of Larry and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Unity Christian High School.
