Thomas A. O’Malley of Grapevine, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the age of 92. Tom was the loving husband of the late Nellie Gwyn (Alley) O’Malley with whom he had shared 63 years of marriage at the time of her passing.
Tom was born in Upper Darby, PA on November 22, 1925. He was the 8th of 11 children of John and Helen O’Malley.
During his school years, Tom enjoyed playing sports, especially tennis and basketball. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, including the Occupation of Japan.
Following military service, Tom worked for the U.S. Postal Service and also owned and operated a Florist business in Upper Darby. In 1981 Tom retired to Spring Hill, FL and then relocated to Texas in 2005.
Tom was a sports enthusiast and was especially fond of professional tennis. Although he was a native of Pennsylvania, he later became an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.
Tom acquired numerous friends along the way, both young and old, many of whom he considered extended family. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas A. and wife Diane, Timothy A. and wife Christine, and Terrance A. and wife Linda, as well as 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Patricia (O’Malley) Bradfield and Charles J. O’Reilly.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Wounded Warrior Project” or the “Gary Sinese Foundation” in the name of “Thomas A. O’Malley, USMC.”
