Ralph Horace Green passed away at Meadow View of Greeley on Friday July 12, 2019. He was born In Greeley on February 2, 1925 to Harry E. (H.E.) and Grace (Buell) Green. He attended College High School from K-12, graduating in June, 1942. He immediately enrolled at Colorado A & M (now Colorado State University), receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in December, 1944.
Following graduation, he joined the Westinghouse Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA for two years and then taught for two years at CSU in the Electrical Engineering department. In 1948 he joined his father and others in running a mobile radio service business and helped form Empire Dispatch of Greeley. Ralph married Mary Lou Clark in December 1949. In 1953, he sold his interest in the mobile radio firms and joined his father in operating radio station KFKA. Later, upon the death of his father, he assumed majority ownership and management of KFKA. The station was later sold in 1966. He then pursued his Master’s degree in education at CSU and studied for a PhD in 1970. He taught part-time at Aims Community College until he became a permanent faculty member in the electronics department in 1974. He enjoyed his teaching at Aims until his retirement in 1989.
Soon after, he and his wife traveled for a time around the U.S., allowing him to research his family genealogy and meet many cousins he had never known. Travels also included trips to visit his wife's relatives in Sweden, tour spots in Europe, a cruise of the Panama Canal, and a cruise with friends to the east coast and eastern Canada. A condominium purchase in Arizona granted him and Mary Lou brief stays in the fall and spring away from colder Colorado. He has been a member of the First United Methodist church since his confirmation at age fourteen. He was an active member of Kiwanis since 1955, (a past president) and was a founding member of the Union Colony Kiwanis club in Greeley until it was dissolved.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie (Dennis) Stansbury of Johnstown, Nancy Green of Denver, and a son, Robert (Tami) Green of Windsor; four grandchildren, Melissa (Paul) von Goertz of Richardson, TX, Kristen (Josh) Botts of Richardson, TX, Sarah (Alex) May of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Andrew (Christy) Green of Colorado Springs; and nine great grandchildren. His beloved wife Mary Lou, his parents, a sister and a brother predeceased him.
A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Greeley. A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens prior to the funeral.
