Marianne Rossi, known as “Nana” to her beloved family, was born Mary Ann Cawley on October 9, 1930, in Denver, Colorado and spent the majority of her long and fulfilling life in Greeley. She passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021.
Marianne married Anthony Maria Rossi, “Tony” on August 24, 1949 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley. They enjoyed 62 years together and had three children. Marianne is survived by her daughter Roxanne and son Michiel, and their spouses Jim and Cyndi, respectively; three grandchildren, Jon and his wife Aspen, Sarah and her husband Mac, and Michael and his wife Carly; and two great-grandchildren, Orla and Nova.
Marianne was a member of St. Peter’s Parish since the first grade and remained active in the church throughout her life in roles such as Church Council member and president, Eucharistic Minister and case worker for the Social Justice Commission. She also served on the Ladies of St. Peter, where she was a past-president and assumed care of the altar and flowers and coordinated wedding rehearsals. Marianne maintained a strong Catholic faith and commitment to her church throughout her life.
In addition to her active involvement in St. Peter’s, Marianne worked for the local American Red Cross, where she was Assistant Director and volunteer coordinator. Marianne and Tony were well known by the UNC community, where he was a professor, and they served as dorm directors for many years. Marianne was a fiber artist and throughout her life enjoyed creating art, reading and gardening.
A visitation will be held for Marianne Thursday night, April 22, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Allnutt Funeral - Macy Chapel, 6521 W 20th St, Greeley. Mass will be conducted at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. Following mass, Marianne will be laid to rest next to Tony at Sunset Memorial Gardens. All are welcome.
