Martha Nioma Whitman, 94, of Greeley, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019, in Greeley, CO. Martha was born in Gill, CO, on November 28, 1924 to George and Elizabeth Meyer. She grew up in LaSalle, CO, on the family farm. Martha married Robert V. Whitman on June 7, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Denver, CO. They were married for 64 years until his death on November 14, 2009.
Martha and her husband moved to Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley for four years. They later settled in Littleton, CO, where her husband was a Littleton School District administrator for 28 years.
Martha enjoyed volunteering in the elementary schools and being room mother for her daughter. She worked as a secretary in the Arapahoe High School library and as a teacher’s aide at Centennial Elementary School. She loved being involved with children.
Martha also enjoyed playing bridge with lifelong friends, bowling, square dancing, and working in her gardens. She loved traveling and having family get-togethers and family reunion picnics.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Pam Thompson (Mark); grandson Jon Exner (Stephanie); granddaughter, Jennifer Williams (Chris); step-grandsons, Eric Thompson (Angie) and Michael Thompson (Eryn); step-granddaughter Kristina Thompson; and six precious great-grandchildren, who will miss their “Gigi”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, and her husband.
