Charles “Kenneth” Odham, age 83, of Greensboro, NC entered eternal rest, unexpectedly, while sleeping in his favorite recliner on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Kenneth was born on May 1, 1940 in High Point, NC to the late Henry and Sybil Mae Lockhart Odham.
He attended High Point High School where he met the love of his life, Marie Elaine Freeze. The two were wed on December 19, 1958 and remained as one until her passing in 2017 after nearly 59 years of marriage.
Ken worked in the textile maintenance business for most of his working life. He built and repaired knitting machines for Adams Millis and later H.E. Crawford. Before retiring, he worked a few years at Sprinkle’s Gas in Greensboro.
My Daddy was “truly a diamond in the rough!” He may have come across with a gruff exterior, but he had an underlying heart of gold. Kenny (another nickname) was a simple, dedicated man who loved figuring out how to fix most anything especially if it had a motor. He loved working on his “baby”, a Case lawnmower bought new in 1984. Morgan, a neighbor said it made her smile while watching him take it out for a joy ride around the neighborhood the day before he passed. He taught his daughter Carrie, how to drive a stick shift and change the oil in her car.
Ken was passionate about many things. He loved reading his Bible, his new church family, cars, lawnmowers, motorcycles, singing and gardening. He had some amazing gardens as a younger man. He also loved talking to his great friend Perry and my Uncle Bill on a daily basis. Talking politics and spending time with his only daughter Carrie also brought him much joy.
One other special love of his life was his dog/”sidekick”, Buddy. They shared a special bond and you rarely saw one without the other. The two were inseparable.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Elaine Odham; one brother, John Douglas Odham of Archdale, NC; two sisters and one special aunt, Joretta Lewis of High Point, NC.
Surviving are one daughter, Carrie Odham (Ronnie) Misenheimer of High Point, NC; two grandchildren, Maxton Reid Misenheimer of High Point, NC, Carly Nicole Misenheimer of Seattle, WA and a brother Bill Odham of Youngsville, NC.
Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at New Testament Baptist Church, 1404 W. Vandalia Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406, officiated by Pastor Brett Seawell with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.
