Charlotte Parady of Greensboro passed away February 14, 2019. She was a native of Germany and a World War II survivor. She and her late husband made the journey to America On December 15, 1951, aboard the troopship USNS General R.M. Blatchford with 1,200 refugees and displaced persons after a stormy crossing. She has been a longtime resident of Greensboro, retiring after a lengthy career in high fashion clothing, first at Schramm’s (where she famously was asked only once to attend the switchboard and confronted with a lit board, pulled all the plugs) as a high fashion buyer for Dayton-Hudson Department Stores in the Midwest (where she was paired with a Miss South Dakota, and famously discovered an assistant wearing her stolen dress on a float as the festival queen), Montaldo’s of Greensboro, and the Belk Department Store Group in North Carolina. Upon retiring, Charlotte kept busy part time assisting the operation of the gift shop at the Greensboro-High Point Marriott airport hotel, and worked as a pharmacy volunteer inside Wesley Long Hospital for years delivering medications. Her infectious grin and feisty wit were enjoyed by all. In recent years, she enjoyed hosting the “neighborhood girls” occasionally for treats and refreshments and enjoyed visiting and traveling with her son and visiting abroad her family in Germany. Even in her last months, her beauty could never be repressed as she became “Queen Charlotte” in Pennybyrn rehabilitation.
She will be greatly missed by her former colleagues, good friends, loving neighbors, her “buddy” and special caregiver, and most of all, her beloved son and his family, her sister and her two nephews and a niece. Charlotte will always be fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Charlotte is survived by her son Bodo, her grandson Mick, and her sister Inge.
Her family will receive friends during a reception from 4 to 6 pm, Friday, February 22, 2018 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel. Online condolences may be offered at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
