Judy Futrell Mincher
June 10, 1939 – November 3, 2018
Judith Ann Futrell Mincher, 79, of Greensboro, NC, died suddenly at her home peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning.
Judy was born June 10, 1939 in Woodland, NC to Betty Mae Parker Futrell and Robert Glenn Futrell. She attended the Roanoke Rapids Nursing School where she met the love of her life, and future husband of 58 years, Thomas D. “Tom” Mincher, of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Tom and Judy lived in Durham, NC where she worked as a pediatric RN at Duke Hospital, while Tom attended Duke University.
Greensboro was their home for 54 years where Judy was a dedicated mother, homemaker, Hospice nurse, active volunteer and coach to many of her children’s sports teams.
Judy had a true love for children and assisted many children’s organizations. She took great joy in quietly and privately assisting others in their time of need. Whether it was helping them obtain food, clothes, furniture, eyeglasses, dental care or just friendship with a weekly visit to a nursing home.
Judy did her best to help as many people as she could. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church she became an Elder of the Church. Her Christian faith was strong and an important guide to her life. She was a faithful member of two bible study groups. Being outdoors, at the beach, playing tennis with dear friends, antiquing, reading her bible, and attending Duke basketball games gave her great pleasure. Nothing meant more to her than her beloved husband, for whom she unselfishly cared; her children, her grandchildren and her dear friends.
Judy is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Mincher; son, Thomas D. Mincher, Jr and wife, Laura, of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Kathryn M. Green and husband, Chris, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Sarah Mincher Cocchiola and husband Michael of Richmond, VA; Thomas D. Mincher, III and Robert Davis Mincher, both of Greensboro, NC; Charles Carter Green, Ryan Patterson Green and Kathryn Morgan Green, all of Greensboro, NC; brother, Robert Glenn Futrell, Jr. and his wife Tad; sister, Clara Futrell Parker and her late husband Bill Parker; sister-in-law Janet Piersa and her husband, Stan Piersa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends from 5:30-7pm Monday, November 5 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held November 6, at 11 AM in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, followed by a gathering in the Virginia Gilmer room, and committal at Green Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to a charity of ones choosing.
Arrangements are under the care of Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.
