Willomae Nixon Jones. 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Wesley Long Hospital from complications with sepsis. She was born in Guilford County on June 19, 1933, the daughter of Ressie Cyrus and Cora Idabelle Garrett Nixon. Willomae loved Carolina Tarheel basketball, had season tickets to the Greensboro Generals /Monarchs hockey games and watching the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed going to Lake Tillery and overnight card games with the family. She loved her grandchildren, working in the yard, flowers and to travel. For many years, she lived in Sanford where she and her husband John operated Jones Catering but moved back to Greensboro where she then worked in the delis of A&P and Winn Dixie and retired from the Kendall Center. Willomae was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She will be deeply missed. Willomae was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John A. Jones; son, Larry K. Jones; her parents, Ressie and Ida Nixon; sisters, Kathleen Weeks, Dorothy Paschal, Helen Lewis (Edward), Nancy Doss, Thelma Nixon; brothers, Ray Nixon, Hugh Nixon and granddaughter, Jessica Jones. Those left to cherish her memory are children, Kaye Jones, Cindy Jones, Kent Jones(Selena); brother-in-law, Joe Doss; grandchildren, Scott Jones(Robin), Kevin Jones (Somer), Steven Jones, Clinton Jones (Yvonne), Cory Jones; great grandchildren, Michael (Chase) Jones, McKayla Jones, Garrett Jones, Jensen Jones, Amelia Jones, Lucius Jones, Rylann Jones and Jay Hines. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, 3:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Entombment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
