She was born Dorothy Jean Alexander on August 4, 1924, in Delevan, Illinois, to Francis Ruth (Lamberton) Alexander and Howard Alexander.
Dee's journey in life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her profession. She graduated from Delavan High School on May 28th, 1942, and then embarked on a career in nursing, entering St. Francis Nursing School in Peoria, Illinois. Three years later, she emerged as a skilled and compassionate registered nurse, ready to make a difference in the lives of others.
Between 1947 and 1961, Dee welcomed eight wonderful children into the world during her marriage to Robert T. Reilly. She cherished her role as a mother and took immense pride in nurturing and guiding her children through life's ups and downs.
In 1950, Dee began her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. Her dedication and expertise in nursing quickly shone through, leading to her transfer to St. Luke's Hospital, where she eventually became the head nurse of the labor and delivery department. Her commitment to patient care touched countless lives, and she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike.
In 1979, Dee found love again and married John J. MacDade, affectionately known as Jack. Their love story continued for many years, and together they shared retirement in Estes Park, Colorado. Dee and Jack's retirement was filled with adventures, travel, and rounds of golf. Her passion for golf even led her to achieve the remarkable feat of a Hole-in-One.
One of Dee's cherished traditions was baking dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies, which she would lovingly pack and send to her eight children scattered across the country, spreading warmth and love during the holiday season.
Dee was a woman of profound faith, a devout Catholic who kept the Lord close to her heart in every aspect of her life. Her faith guided her through both joyful and challenging times, serving as a source of strength and solace.
In addition to her personal endeavors, She contributed to the world by donating monetarily and knitting blankets for orphaned Native American children, exemplifying her caring nature and compassion.
Dee is survived by her loving husband, Jack MacDade, and her children: Susan (Reilly) Radle, Tim Reilly (Kathleen), Peg (Reilly) Loyd (Tim), Shawn Reilly (Beth), Dan Reilly (Paula), and Kerry Reilly (Kristy). She was also a cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and even a great-great-grandmother to many. Her presence will continue to be felt through the generations she touched with her love and wisdom.
