Joyce was a long-time resident of Greenville, South Carolina. Joyce was a member of the Edwards Road Baptist Church where she was active in The Good News Club ministries before falling ill in 2015. She volunteered at the Eastside Crisis Center. Joyce loved the beach and family reunions.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, John Earl Ried Jr, in 1993.
Joyce is survived by her sons, John Martin Ried (Kim) and Robert Earl Ried; daughter,
Deborah Kay Visconti; honorary daughter, Marlou Land (David); grandchildren, Ashley Marie Cook (Chris), John William Ried, Cole Philip Ried, Christopher Ried Stephenson, Emily Smererkanicz (Nick), Michelle Harrison (Justin), and Michael Land (Hannah); and great-grandchildren, Bennett Clark Cook, Everett Ried Cook, Violett Josephine Cook, Levi Joseph Smerekanicz, and Glenn Michael Harrison.
Born on August 10, 1933 in Bluefield, West Virginia, to the late Ruby Hazel Evans and the late Jessie Martin Evans, Joyce had ten siblings. She grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia. Joyce is survived by her sister Mary Jefferson and her brother Charlie Evans. She is predeceased by her brothers Huley, Doug, Roy, Ralph, Bobby, Richard, and sisters Virginia and Jo Marie.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mackey Mortuary, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, South Carolina, 29607. The funeral service, officiated by Jim Williams, is on Wednesday, March 27 at 10:00, Edwards Road Baptist Church, Edwards Road, Greenville, South Carolina, 29615.
