Sylvia Lingo Gillespie, 90, of Greenville, loving wife of the late Gene M. Gillespie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late John William and Pauline Wiggins Lingo. Syliva graduated from Greenville High School and attended Furman University and Winthrop College. She was a former board member of Meals on Wheels, The Governor’s Mansion Commission, a Trustee of Limestone College, a member of the Greenville Garden Club, and the Tiffany Circle of The American Red Cross. In addition to her civic duties, Sylvia loved being a homemaker and raising her three daughters. She delighted in her family and also enjoyed singing in the church choir and painting.

Sylvia is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Easterlin Hines (Jim) of Greenville, SC, and Susan Easterlin Brisben (David) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; one brother, John W. Lingo, Jr. (Juanita) of Centerville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Scott Hines, Amy Hines Marsh, Julie Brisben Bullinger, and Ben Brisben; six great-grandchildren; and many extended family members with whom she was very close.

In addition to her late husband, she was preceded in death by three former husbands, W. Jack Greer, Gordon Gulledge, and Bernard Easterlin; and one daughter, Julie Easterlin.

Out of concern for the health and well-being of the community that she loved, there will be no services at this time. The family will announce a memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, or to the charity of one’s choice.
