Thelma Smith Marino died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 18, 2018 in Greenwich, Connecticut.
She was born on October 12, 1930 to the late Joseph and Maude Smith of Salisbury, North Carolina.
A longtime Greenwich resident, she retired from GTE and was active in a number of volunteer organizations, including the Greenwich Garden Education Center. She particularly enjoyed teaching reading to non-native English speakers and spending time in her garden. Her greatest joy, however, was her family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Stephen Paul Marino, three sons: Stephen and wife Ragi Marino, Paul and wife Suzanne Marino, Mark and wife Mary Marino, and two daughters, Mary and husband Bruce Wiggins and Carol Marino. Also twelve grandchildren: Michelle, Stephen, Nicole, Michael, Matthew, Katharina, Jessica, Adam, Kathryn, Marissa, Marina and David. One sister, Rose Shuping survives.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 23, from 3:00 - 6:00pm at Leo Gallagher & Son, 31 Arch St., Greenwich, Connecticut. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, at 10:00am at St. Agnes Church, 247 Stanwich Rd., Greenwich, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one’s charity of choice. The family would like to extend its appreciation to Greenwich EMS and the nurses and doctors of Greenwich Hospital for their support and kindness.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.
