Blake is survived by her caring husband, Thomas Mikiel; loving mother, Leslie and brother, Nick Demgen (Sarah.); mother-in-law, Yucel Mikiel; stepmother- in-law, Barbara Peeples-Mikiel; brother-in-law, John Mikiel; and sister-in-laws, Suzan Mikiel and Iohla Conway (Shawn). She will be missed greatly by all her beloved friends
Her greatest love was books. Anyone close to her and Tom would know they probably have a few thousand in their home, and that she has read them all. She also loved music, plants, and her pets. Blake had such a kind heart and really wanted the best for everyone. She was passionate about women's rights, politics, music, and her friendships that she cherished.
Blake had left Michigan for a while, and lived in Atlanta, GA as well as Raleigh, NC, where she worked for Whole Foods as a floral manager, traveling and opening new stores. A big part of her life was the friendship between her two high school friends, Veronica Williams and Beth Genthe, and still goes on today. Blake and Tom were introduced to each other through Veronica and met in the mid 90's originally, but the romance developed at a Halloween party in 2012. In 2018, Blake and Tom were engaged, and then married the following year on September 7th, at the Dossin Boat museum on Belle Isle, with Veronica and Beth as her co-maids of honor.
In early 2020, Blake discovered that she had cancer, right around the time that the world discovered the pandemic. She had fought through chemo, surgery, and immunotherapy, but the cancer spread and ultimately took her from us at the young age of 46.
A memorial gathering for Blake will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236, with a sharing of memories at 4:00 PM.
