Sincere sympathies and condolences to all of the Antonoffs regarding the passing of Stan Antonoff.  I am the first cousin of Dan Neufeld, who married Heidi Antonoff, Stan's daughter.  Alas, I didn't know Stan well, and I only met him a couple of times through the years, here and there.  But every time that I met him, I remember a smile, a warm presence, and a smart, knowing gleam in his eye as if to say, "It's a pleasure to meet you."  He just eminated warm, kindness and caring.  Every time I saw him, I made sure to ask him how he was doing, and I think that he appreciated that. Once or twice, I asked him about the sports memorabilia business, and I think he appreciated that, too.  I believe that I saw him last at Emily's wedding, and he was nice and caring then, too.  I may not have known him well or met him that often, but I know that Stan Antonoff was a good man.    And I know that he was a great father-in-law to my cousin, and a great dad to my cousin's wife, Heidi, and I truly appreciate that! I write to pay tribute to the most generous man I have known, Stanley Antonoff.  I begin with a personal reminiscence.  One Saturday night in 1953, Stan came by to pick me up for a return to our favorite high school ice cream parlor.  He tossed some papers to me, told me to fill them out, and said he would pick them up Monday morning.  The papers were applications for a scholarship at Fairleigh Dickinson, which he was attending.  I dutifully filled out the forms; Stan picked them up, and three months later I began my sixty-four year odyssey in higher education.  Stan had taken the time, of which we all have far too little, to go out of his way for a friend. Generosity, however, involves more than the giving of one’s time; the word is also related to the words genesis and generate.  Stanley also generated a lovely family, a cadre of friends, and so much more.  After my first six years in academia, my younger brother came to me to thank me.  I asked, what for?  He answered, for going to college.  Had you not gone, he said, I would not have gone.  My brother became a pediatric neurologist and helped relieved the pain of many young patients and their parents.  Indirectly, Stanley helped generate that relief.  A synonym for generosity is charity, a word which suggests not only giving, but loving as well.  Stanley was also one of the most loving men I have known; it was the loving which led to the giving. The Latin word for both giving and loving is caritas.  Stanley Antonoff was, and for me will always be, the embodiment of the power of caritas.
