I got to know Carl recently when he was working on a couple of my bikes, I did not know him well but he seemed like a nice man and truly in love with his work. He still has my bikes and I owe him some money. Please have his executor email me at dblarter@hotmail.com

This is Sandy Rubinfeld. Carl was my boyfriend and we lived together from 1979 to end of 1986. We kept in touch, sporadically... but phoned each other over the last 4 years or so and exchanged some letters and postcards. I TRIED to get Carl onto email to make communication more seamless... but he resisted the computer completely! The last card I received from Carl, with a lovely message, was on September 16 2014. I sent him a small gift package on January 12th... partly for his birthday (car calendar, some cool articles on custom-made bikes, which he has been into over the last 7 years, info on the custom DIY bicycle shop here..) and don't even know if he ever received it.

I knew something was off, in that I tried calling him since Xmas and only got his answering machine, with recording "Message box full"... and I found it strange that he was never at home and never got back to me. I just tried calling, and got the 'this number is not in service"... so googled for the obits. I am so very sad to hear this news, and so sad that I didn't get a chance to speak to Carl one last time or to talk to him while he was in the hospital.

I have such fond memories of Carl. He was honest, good-hearted and had a lot of integrity. He was a very good soul and was a very ethical person. He had the spirit of a poet and patience of a craftsman, whether he worked on repairing cars, putting together custom bicycles, painting cars... and I often felt he missed his calling by not devoting himself to a fine craft such as pottery or glass. There was also a lovely gracefulness about him, and I really enjoyed dancing with him when we were together.

Good journeys, Carl... I shall miss you and our conversations.

This is Bruce Mitchell.  Carl and I were boyhood friends during the early 60's when he lived on Walton Drive and I was on Dutch Village Road.  My deepest sympathies to his family.  I lost track of Carl, it must be 45 years since I last saw him but we had good times together as children.
