John Merle Wittenback

John M. “Merle” Wittenback passed away December 28, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on January 16, 1933 to John Wittenback and Mary Katherine Prueitt Crossley. Merle is the beloved husband of Cora E. Wittenback (deceased). He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia J. (Greg) White, Brenda K. (Steve) Myers, and Sheila R. (Darrell) Vaughn; also step-daughters, Mary E. Boyd, Marilyn R. (Michael) Hunter, Sherree L. (Tom) Boeddeker; grandchildren; great grandchildren and numerous friends. He was a construction pipe fitter with Local Union 108 of Hamilton, and retired from Local Union 392 of Cincinnati. Merle attended school in Hamilton and Pasadena, Texas, graduation from Hamilton High in 1951. He was a member of The Miami Valley Woodcarver’s Association; National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association; Masons; Washington Lodge #17; Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati; Syrian Shriners, Hamilton Shriners. Merle loved auto racing, all sports, and was a certified Scuba Diver. He joined the USNR in 1951 and was Honorably Discharged from The US Navy as a 3rd class Metal Smith in 1958. A funeral service will take place at Rose Hill Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11am.

My family and I lived across the street from Cora and John.... many years ago. As a child I spent many days sitting on their front porch learning about wood carving from John and having fun chats with Cora.

They will forever be remembered.
