It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dexter Alfred Troop, on Saturday September 2nd, 2023, surrounded by his family. Survived by his best friend and loving wife Carol of almost 60 years. Beloved father of Brian (Sandra), Brenda (Craig) and Brad (Helen). Will be forever missed by his grandchildren Jennifer (Rick), Jessica (Paul), Justin (Stella), Meg, Marissa, Jacob and Josh and his 4 great-grandchildren Mason, Madden, Everett and Declan. Survived by his mother-in law Nadeen (and the late Norman) Reid. Dexter was born on his family farm in Midgic, N.B a place very near to his heart where he will be fondly remembered by his brother Leaman (Linda). He is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Elsie and his late sister Loretta (Vernon) Rafter. He will also be missed by his in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
Dexter came to Hamilton to find work as a young man and met the girl next door whom he married and built his life and family. He spent most of his working life at Slater Steel where he had an incredible work ethic. He had a love of gardening and love of a decent meal. Dexter had an unselfishness like no other and always put others first. He showed kindness and generosity to everyone he met. He will be remembered by all for his special telling of “back on the coast” stories that he shared often. But his greatest joy in life was the pride and love he had for his entire family. You will be missed beyond words.
You will be forever in our hearts, forever our “Grampy”.
Many thanks to the amazing and caring Palliative team, Nurses and the staff of the Nephrology ward of St. Joseph’s Hospital.
