Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Kazarnowicz, age 96, of Hampton, Virginia died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. She was born on October 7,1925 in Ashland, KY, the daughter of the late Fred D. Maddix, Sr. and Amanda Edna Binion Maddix.
Mary began her career with the government in 1959 under a series of contracts at Fort Knox, KY and Fort Monroe. She transferred to Fort Eustis in 1968 as a Computer Programmer/Analyst, eventually retiring in 1998 as the Director of Information Management, U.S. Army Transportation Center and Fort Eustis.
As devoted as she was to her career, Mary was even more devoted to her family, friends and neighbors. She was always providing thoughtful gifts and care packages to those who were special to her. There is no one more generous or kind-hearted than she was.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Edward Kazarnowicz; four sisters, Tewatha (Tommie) Colley, Hazel Topping, Geneva Christine (Tinie) Forrest, and Laura Haupt; four brothers, Julius Clifford Maddix, Fred (Buddy-Screek) Maddix Jr., William (Bill) Maddix, and James (Jack) Maddix. She is survived by her son, Donald Eways and his wife, Rachel; granddaughter Dawn Smith and her husband, Gary; two great-grandsons, Connor and Cameron; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who have been such a blessing the last two years, including Tish Smith, Sender Morgan, Cindy Link, Jeanette Brown, Sharon West, Netta Foreman and Je’Licia Hardison. This team has provided great comfort to Mary and her family. Also, the family is grateful for the support, care, and concern from her neighbors, Steve, Wendy, Jerry, and Gladys.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM. An interment will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of their choice.
