Thurman P. (Pete) Forehand, Jr. passed away January 16, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Pete was born January 26, 1934 in Great Bridge, Virginia to Thurman P. Sr. and Julia Langford Forehand. Pete grew up in South Mills, North Carolina and graduated from South Mills High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, and was stationed at Kirk Newton RAF Base in Edinburgh, Scotland where he worked as a radio intercept operator.
In April of 1962 Pete married Mollie Lu Yeates. Their marriage was blessed with two children and their spouses, Thurman P. (Pete) and Kristi Forehand, and Julia and Tom Zimmerman. He was known as Pop-Pop by Chad Forehand, Chelsea Forehand, Rebecca Zimmerman, Jennifer and Nick Scully, and Matthew Zimmerman. Also, he was his pup Otis’ favorite human. Pete’s surviving siblings are Virginia F. Winslow and Philip W. Forehand. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Jeannine Haskett.
After retiring from Wyle Laboratories, Pete pursued his artistic talent and became quite an accomplished watercolorist. He was a long-time member of Liberty Baptist Church, and loved being part of Russell Reames’ bible study class. One of his favorite activities was exercising at the Y. Pete was well-known for his Forehand mac-n-cheese, fried chicken, and chocolate chip cookies.
Pete leaves a legacy of family and friends who love him dearly and miss him greatly!
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 21, at Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Berea Church of Christ Cemetery, 1664 New Hope Road, Hertford, North Carolina 27944.
