September 25, 1949 - October 15, 2018
Donna Pauline Pereira was the first born of 3 in Ada, Oklahoma to Paul and Jolee Douglas on September 25, 1949.
The family moved to Bakersfield during Donna's early years to find better work in the fields of California. After Bakersfield, the family moved to Stratford and finally settled in Hanford where Donna graduated Hanford High.
Donna was our peace-loving flower child who never met a stranger. She made lifelong friends, Kathy and Mary Jane in high school, the girls, Rita, Karen, and Joann when she worked for Bervens Rug Mills in Fresno, and her and Frankie's friends, Gabe and Gail Azevedo from Oregon. There are so many more to mention, she loved you all.
In the early 80's Donna worked for Hanford Elementary School District for 10 years before moving to the Probation and Civil division of the Kings County Sheriff's Department where she worked for 25 years before retiring. On December 19, 1984, she married Frankie Pereira. With Frankie came his son Jared and daughter Shanda whom Donna helped raise and love as her own. Donna also helped Frankie with his business, Pereira Floor Covering, keeping up with his office work after her regular job. Donna and Frankie loved to travel and often went on cruises and trips with family and friends. A memorable trip for them was to visit the Azores to meet Frankie's relatives. After retirement, Donna bought a motorhome to make sure they would continue traveling with friends. Donna was a member of the Hanford Cabrillo Club #9 and the Hanford Elks Lodge #1259.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, son David John Vernon, stepdaughter Shanda Pereira, and stepson Jared Pereira.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Frankie Pereira, sister Vicki (Phillip) Lupercio of Fresno, brother Randall (Julie) Douglas, sister-in-law Lisa (Dave) Hines, brothers-in-law; Larry, John, Manuel and Michael (Carol) Pereira, all of Hanford, her ever faithful dog MIA and many extended family members and friends.
Frankie would like to extend his gratitude to his sister-in-law Vicki, his sister Lisa and their husbands for all the help during Donna's battle with cancer. The family would especially like to thank the Faye, and Jerry Mahon, the hospice nurses, and all the friends that helped with Donna's care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanford Elks Lodge #1259; 506 N. Douty St., Hanford.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Donna's name.
Arrangements are conducted by People's Funeral Chapel of Hanford.
