James E. Adams

October 29, 1942January 26, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of James E. Adams (Jimmy) announces his passing on Wednesday. January 26, 2011. He has entered into eternal rest, and is now reunited with his parents (Frank & Jessie Adams), brother Russell Adams, and many other family and friends in heaven.

Jim was born October 29, 1942, in Illinois, being the third son of Frank and Jessie. He attended local schools, being class treasurer all four years and FFA president one year of high school, an assignment that he accepted and performed admirably.

After high school, he attended Western Illinois University before entering the U.S. Navy in 1962. He was first sent to Memphis, then came to Lemoore NAS in California. During his navy career, he was assigned to FAETUPAC, where he would attend training on new flyers, come back, and train navy pilots. Upon discharge from the Navy, he remained in California working for Me-N-Ed's Pizza for 14 years, for Del Monte Foods for 28 years, and retiring in June of 2009.

He married Joanne (Hilkey) Adams in October of 1967, and they were married for over 43 years. Their family includes three sons: Bill Adams of Hanford, Daniel Adams (Melissa) of Hanford, Andrew Adams (Jahnava) of Clovis, and one darling grandson-Tristan James Adams.

Jim will always be remembered as the quiet worker, who would go that extra mile to assist anyone. One of his greatest joys was to take the month of October every year and return to Illinois, where he helped his father and brother harvest their crops while spending time on thefamily farm.

He was an avid fan of the Fresno State Bulldogs, Fresno Grizzlies, and San Francisco 49er’s. He also enjoyed spending time with his weekend coffee friends, his Del Monte Family, and occasionally visiting Spirits and Chukchansi.

In addition to his wife, sons, and grandson, he is survived by two brothers- Jerry and Don from Illinois, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was proceeded in death by his parents Frank and Jessie, brother Russell, sister-in-law Mary, father in law, and Aunt Esther, who was like a second mother to him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday at the Hanford First Christian Church, at 3:00 p.m. Final burial will be in Illinois at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel, Hanford, CA.

Uncle Jim meant the world to me and it is sad to see him pass, but I know that he is in heaven along with Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Russell. He is sharing memories with them and telling Grandma & Grandpa how beautiful and proud he is of his Grandson - Tristan. I had the opportunity to travel to California twice last year for work and each time I took time to drive and stay with Uncle Jim & Aunt JoAnn. The first time I got to meet me cousin Bill as it had been a good 25 years or so since I had last seen him and we have stayed in contact since then. I thank God for all my cousins. I will always remember the 2nd trip I made to California for work and that Friday night that I rang the door bell at Uncle Jim's and surprised him that I was there. He made fun of Aunt JoAnn & I as we wanted to go to the ocean and pick-up Sand Dollars on the beach, but he helped too. You will always hold a special place in my heart. I love you Uncle Jim.
