Sadie Annetta Waanders
July 25, 1920 – November 4, 2020
Sadie Braam Waanders, 100 years old, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home on November 4, 2020, in Reedley, CA, at Palm Village Retirement Community. She was born on July 25, 1920, on the family farm near 13th Avenue and Lacey Blvd. in Hanford, CA. Hanford was her lifelong home.
Sadie was born to Antone and Lena Braam who immigrated to the U.S. from the Netherlands. She was the second born of three daughters. Her older sister, Annetta Tos, preceded her in death in 1999, and her younger sister, Margaret, died of pneumonia as a toddler. Through the years, Sadie worked various office jobs including work to help with the WWII war effort in Modesto, CA. In 1948 she married Arie Waanders, and together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2007.
Sadie had been an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hanford serving in many areas of the life of the church and growing in the love of her Savior and Lord. In her later years, she especially enjoyed leading and participating in studying God’s word in the Coffee Break Bible study ministry. She was a very gifted artist and created many beautiful paintings which her family treasures and many friends enjoy. She shared her skills with students and others over the years.
Sadie’s love for her family was very evident, and she will be greatly missed. Her sound mind and gentle spirit gave words of wisdom and guidance to her children and grandchildren. Of special value was her love and faithfulness in prayer for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Ardyth and Ronald VanGelder of Centennial, CO, and Judy and Case Kamper of Riverdale, CA; five grandchildren: Angela VanGelder of Highlands Ranch, CO, Derek (Stacy) VanGelder of Centennial, CO, Kelsi (Jonathan) VanKeulen of Surrey, British Columbia, Robert (Jessica) Kamper of Visalia, CA, and Brent (Jamie) Kamper of Riverdale, CA; twelve great-grandchildren with an additional one expected soon; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, her husband, and son-in-law, David VanGelder.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the loving care given by the staff of Palm Village Retirement Community in Reedley, CA, over the last 6 years. An added appreciation and thanks go to Hinds Hospice for their additional personal touch and care to our dear mom for the last two years.
