
William H. Squires, 89 of Hanover died August 10 after a long illness. Born in Key West, FL, he was the son of the late Esker I. and Mary F. Hagarty Squires. He was a graduate of Medford High School. William retired from Don Robbins Oil Company as an oil burner technician. He was a long time member of the American Legion in Hanover and the VFW in Abington. William is survived by his wife, Theresa 'Terry' Sullivan Squires, his children Douglas W. Squires and his wife Patty of Hanson, Kenneth I. Squires of Canton and Donna Squires-Steel of Palm City, FL. William was also grandfather to 9 grandchildren. He also leaves his brother John 'Jack' Squires of Rye Beach, NH and was predeceased by his brothers Esmond 'Frank' Squires and George 'Skip' Squires. William proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. At the time of his service, his three brothers and father were also serving in the military. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with 7 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St., in Rockland. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory may be made to the New England Chapter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
