

James Esmond Stiles, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2020, in Beaverton, Oregon. James was born July 11, 1930, in Freeport, New York, to James Sr. and Florence Stiles. He studied at Wesleyan University and joined the U.S. Navy after earning a degree in philosophy. James served through the end of the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1955 at the rank of Lieutenant. He soon married Patricia Burns in Manhattan on September 8, 1956. James and Pat moved to Oregon where James eventually ran a sawmill near Longview, Washington. Together they raised three sons in southwest Portland.
His beloved Patsy preceded him in death in 2018. He is lovingly remembered by his sons James III (Cherie), Alexander (Kate), and Patrick (Belacane), and his three grandchildren: Sophie, Charlotte, and Ole.
We will hold a casual remembrance to share fond memories and hoist a pint in James’ honor at 3p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub at 915 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR.
