Agnes Cecelia Kodosky, 86, of Harrisburg went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2013. She died at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Portage, Pennsylvania, she was the youngest of ten children of the late Frances and Ignatius Sitar. Agnes attended Sacred Heart Polish School in Portage and went to work at an early age in Johnstown. She met the love of her life, Walter, at a dance at the Moose Lodge and was married to him for nearly 56 years.
Agnes was a member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a current member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish, both in Harrisburg. She was also an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Over the years, she participated in numerous charities, church functions and committees, mainly at Sacred Heart. She was also a promoter for the Miraculous Medal for over fifty years.
Agnes loved her family and her God. She was known as a “prayer warrior” and would start each day, rosary in hand, on her knees saying her prayers. She was often asked to “light a candle” and pray for friends and relatives as they travelled or for other special needs. Agnes lived and flourished in her Catholic faith; she enjoyed sharing the love and hope that all can find in Jesus.
Agnes loved to cook and bake, sharing her goodies with friends, neighbors and relatives. She was known as the “cookie lady”, one year baking over 5000 cookies to share for the Christmas holiday.
Agnes enjoyed spending time with family. She also enjoyed gardening, trips to the casino, bingo and various games of chance. Above all, she loved attending church services and watching daily Mass on EWTN.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and her siblings, Frank Sitar, Katherine Kilanowski, John Sitar and Mary Czajko of New Jersey, Stella Shedlock and Stanley Sitar of Ohio and Joseph Sitar of Pennsylvania and two brothers, Alex and John, in infancy.
Agnes is survived by her children, Michael and Sharon of Harrisburg, Lawrence of Ortonville, MI, Mary Collins of Mount Gretna whom Agnes loved and cherished as another daughter, and her future daughter-in-law, Sylvia Medlen of Ortonville, MI and many beloved nieces and nephews
