Andrew James Kreider, III, 66, affectionately known as “Andy”, passed away in his home in Shiremanstown, PA on June 12, 2020. He was born on March 18, 1954 at Fort Belvoir, VA to the late Andrew James Kreider, Jr. and Helen Marie O’Neillfrom Lebanon County, PA.
Andy grew up in the Lebanon area where he excelled in swimming and he won several awards while also holding a record that remained at the Lebanon County Club Pool for 40yrs! He also graduated from the Cleona High School and then attended the University of Denver, CO, where he attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Andy was retired from the food industry with at least 30yrs of experience where he managed several restaurants including Bonanza, the Ground Round, Wendy’s and the Seven Bridges Dining Room in Harrisburg. He was well loved by those he worked with for his compassionate spirit and was not your typical boss! He would frequently take a personal interest in his employees, rather than treating them like just a number! He was also admired by others that knew him outside of the work place. For example, two of his neighbors commented on his acts of kindness where he helped them with their transportation needs.
Andy battled throat cancer during the last 3yrs of his life completing a large number of chemo and radiation treatments at Hershey Medical Center in October of 2017. He maintained a good relationship with his doctors by keeping the lones of communications open, where he’d go out of his way to make sure they would all know that he had received a cancer free diagnosis from a CAT scan.
Andy would also make his presence known with his unique sense of humor while he’d be on a doctor’s appointment. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him!
Surviving are his wife of 21yrs, Anita J. Kreider from Dillsburg, PA; sister, Linda K. Wells and husband Joel A. Wells; son, Jamie Wells and wife Kayla of Jacksonville, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas Behney.
The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc. has been a tremendous help in assisting in the grieving process and on every detail of the arrangements.
