Ann Marie Patricia (Merena) Wesloskie, 90, of Colonial Park, Harrisburg, peacefully departed from this world while listening to “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” with her daughters by her side on February 24, 2025. Her soul, in Heaven, is now reunited with her dearly beloved husband Eugene.
Ann Marie was born in Shamokin, PA on February 12, 1935, a daughter of the late Florence (Staniszewski) Merena and Jacob Merena. She was the eldest of her five siblings; John Merena, Margaret Danglovitch, Evelyn Klemanski, and the late Jacob Merena, Jr. and Richard Merena.
She was raised by her compassionate Aunt Nellie (Staniszweski) Terefencko who loved her as her own daughter and was her “mother”. Her childhood on the summit of Pine Street in Shamokin was abundant with tenderhearted friends and relatives. Nellie and her husband John Terefencko had a son, John Eugene, who Ann Marie cared for as her “little brother.” They lived next door to her Uncle Bill and Aunt Julia Staniszewski’s family with her cousin, Juliann (Staniszewski) Wanzie. There were many memories made of back yard clam bakes, polka parties, and holiday celebrations with Slavic traditions.
In 1954 she graduated from Coal Township High School. She married her Pine Street sweetheart, Eugene Martin Wesloskie, on her birthday in a snow storm in 1955. They moved to Colonial Park, Harrisburg, to a home where she lived from 1955 to 2022. Together they nurtured their four daughters in love, faith, and happiness. She was widowed in 1991 when her devoted Eugene had a sudden cardiac death.
Ann Marie enjoyed reading interior design magazines to style her beautiful home. She had a green thumb evidenced by a lovely rose garden and houseplants.
She loved baking, needle point, art projects, and shopping. When her daughters were grown, she worked as a telephone operator at the Bon Ton and later as a receptionist at Villa Theresa Nursing Home.
Most of all she was a wonderful mother who was always there when needed. She protected and prayed for family. She delighted in caring for her grand and great grand children and attending any of their school or sport events.
As a devout member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Penbrook she sacrificed to educate her daughters in Catholic school. She volunteered as a school playground mother and was a committed adorer at St. Margaret Mary Sacred Heart Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
St. Francis of Assisi was one of her favorite saints with whom she shared his respect for all God’s creatures. She always had a dear canine companion. She had a special devotion to St. Padre Pio, the patron saint of healing through prayer. She never lost hope with her struggles of surviving several cancers over the past 25 years.
Her seven year struggle with dementia led her to be a resident at Arden Courts of Susquehanna. She has been safe and happy there for the past three years. Her kindness and beautiful smile lifted the spirits of all there.
Ann Marie’s legacy is her dedicated life to her faith and family. She is cherished and survived by her brother John Eugene (Jane Marie); her daughters Lugene McCormick (Mark), Juliann Wesloskie (John Gutschmidt), Barbara Hoffman (Keith), Michele Hooper(David); her grandchildren, Tara(McCormick) Albright (John David), Dr. Lindsey (McCormick) Goetz (Aaron), Michael and Daniel Hoffman, Ben and Samuel Hooper; her great grandchildren Ashlyn and Colton Albright, and Ethan and Erika Goetz.
