It is with profound sadness that the news of Barbara Mongan's peaceful passing on the morning of June 25th is shared. Barbara was retired from the Executive Office of the Commonwealth of Pa., with over 35 years service. Known fondly as Mammer to close family and friends, she was a woman of small stature but immense spirit, known for her vibrant personality, mischievous humor, and abundant kindness. Her home was a haven of laughter, warmth, and delicious homemade treats, where everyone felt welcomed and loved.
Mammer's joyful approach to life was evident in her passions: crossword puzzles, reading, bingo, annual visits to Ocean City, Maryland, traveling the U.S. with her beloved late husband, James Mongan, and her keen eye for a bargain while shopping. Her laughter truly filled their home.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Mongan Jr., her parents, John Kovalcheck and Teressa Kanalis Kovalcheck, and siblings, Frank, Steve, and Marie. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Anthony, granddaughter, Casey Frank and husband Jason Frank , brothers, John and Bruce Kovalcheck, and sister, Linda Vanhorn.
In her memory, and reflecting her generous spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers and cards, donations be made to Homeland Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
