He was born December 3, 1964 in Harrisburg PA, to Jerome Stouffer and Joyce Knapp. After graduating from Dauphin County Technical School in 1983, Barry went on to attend Harrisburg Area Community College for photography.
Barry was a loving father to his two daughters, Kayla and Brooke, and a dear friend to many. He was well known for his support and fellowship with the Sons of the Legion and Riders. Barry assisted the Riders by maintaining their roster, and created forms and welcome packets to help ease the process of welcoming new members into the group. As a Son, he volunteered for every children’s Christmas, Easter and Halloween party, and assisted with the Legion's Veterans day breakfast each year. He had a generous heart, and was happy to lend a hand whenever he was able.
A man of many interests and skills, Barry could be fairly described as a jack of all trades. He loved sci-fi as a genre and video games, and his daughters both have warm memories of pulling up a chair to watch him play Diablo, and of him later teaching them how to play the same game together when they were old enough.
He was an avid motorcyclist and talented photographer, a skilled aquarist, and a man who always knew how to fix any problem around his home- though perhaps not without a banged thumb or a bruise. He often spent summers with his whippets on the deck that he built with his father, or riding his beloved 'frankenbike' on beautiful days. He loved traveling, particularly to beaches, and his saltwater fishtank kept the ocean close at hand when he was home. And though he worked as a travelling photographer for many years, his best work hangs in the walls of his home and the homes of many of his friends and family.
Barry was well loved, and loved deeply in turn. He was proud of his family, and saved every playbill, poetry project, and drawing his daughters shared with him, and kept a treasure trove of pictures of his loved ones close to his heart. Barry was a charismatic man with a talent for turning strangers into lifelong friends, with a sharp wit and a quick sense of humor. He was loved by his community, and was surrounded and supported by friends to the last. He will be dearly and sincerely missed.
He is preceded in death by his father and best friend, Jerome, and stepmother, Carole. He is survived by his mother, Joyce, his half sister Joye, and his daughters Kayla and Brooke.
His family will be holding a celebration of life on August 25th, 2024 at 1pm, at the American Legion Chapter in Linglestown, PA. Community members are encouraged to join to honor and celebrate his memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Be The Match, both of which were organizations that were important to Barry.
