
Burnell was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Special Education and of York College School of Nursing. She retired in 2012 from York Hospital. Following her retirement Burnell was active as a community volunteer with The American Red Cross, the Area Agency on Aging, Meals on Wheels and the Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Her favorite activity of all was traveling to new and not-new places, especially Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
Burnell is survived by her parents Albert and Grace Streyle, her brother Daniel and sister-in-law Jennifer Streyle, sister Deb and brother-in-law Dennis Merkle, nieces Lauren (Spencer) Worley, Sara Merkle (Samantha Miller), nephew Christopher Merkle and great nieces Lorelei and Genevieve Worley.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church and will be announced at a later date.
Burnell’s family requests that you honor her by walking in her footsteps – Live life with purpose, cultivate friendships, have fun and be kind and helpful to everyone you meet along the way. They would especially like to thank the many friends who supported her during her battle with pancreatic cancer.
