

Cynthia (Cindie) Lee Watkins was born on July 18, 1953 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania to Leroy Watkins and Dorothy Sloane. She attended Harrisburg public schools and later graduated from Central Dauphin East High School Class of 1971.
In June 1972 she married her high school sweetheart Herbert “Herbie” Vaughn Hatcher. They had one daughter, Myra-Aliya Ramelle (Hatcher) McCoy born in January of 1977. Despite their divorce in 1990, she and Herbie remained friends for the remainder of their lives.
Cindie took great pride in her career. She first worked at the former Harrisburg Hospital after high school and then in administrative assistant roles at various nonprofit organizations. In 1989 she began working at the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and later the Senate of Pennsylvania, retiring in 2014 with 25 years of service. After her retirement from the Senate she worked for Dauphin County Prison and Ecumenical Retirement Community. Her final job was working for Home Instead Senior Care.
Besides being a loving mother, Cindie was a doting auntie to nieces Zaria and Zyanne Hatcher . In her leisure she was a Steelers fan, dabbled in photography, and loved to read. She was also deeply involved with her community, being on the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood Center in 1985 , working the polls at various elections in support of Democratic candidates and helping anyone she could with information or connecting them to community resources.
On June 7, 2025 Cindie passed away after a courageous 5 year battle with breast cancer.
