Elizabeth Edmunds Edmunds Peterson

Elizabeth Edmunds Peterson, 103, of Lykens, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. She was the widow of LCDR Frank J. Peterson, whom she married in Villefranche, France in 1938. He died in February 1945 in Iwo Jima.

Born in William Penn (Shaft) on August 11, 1911, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Elizabeth (Morrison) Edmunds.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Lykens High School and Bucknell University. Upon graduation, she taught English and Latin at Lykens High School.

She is survived by her children, Judith Ruch of Lykens, Elizabeth Van Buren of Venice, FL, Frank Peterson, Jr, and wife Ornella of Manhattan Beach, CA; eight grandchildren, Scott McCarraher, Stuart Peterson, Molly Sherman, Katie Jackson, William McCarraher, Laura Guest, Lisa Ruch and Isabella Peterson; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Kaeleigh, Kate, Connor, Abigail, Michael and Fischer.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis Meeker, Helen Shomper and Ruth Patton.

A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Lykens and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI at the convenience of the family.
