My grandmother,
 Bessie Eutsler Plaugher, and Ethel were cousins. when my grandmother passed Ethel sent a letter to the nursing home where my grandmother resided. The letter was finally forwarded to me as next of kin. 
I responded to the letter after many years, 
 and took a chance and 
 to my delight, I met my cousin, Ethel. We kept a phone friendship at least once a month for many years. When the calls ended, I knew that I had lost my dear friend, and that has been confirmed here. 
I would like to extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to cousin Ethel's family at this time. Although you didn't know me, I must tell you, Ethel's calls and sense of humor were my sunshine on a gloomy day.

Ethel and my mom, Joan Windsor became best friends and travel buddies. I used to call them the Thelma and Louise of the geriatric set. They went on hot air balloon rides, cruises, and a helicopter ride over the Hawaiian islands. Ethel had a beautiful attitude about life, love and living after the loss of her spouse. She never complained as she slowed down. She would just say "I have three speeds, slow, slower, slowest! She treated my three daughters as her own grandchildren. Ethel was a blessing to everyone who knew her.

Dear Henninger Family,

We are so sorry for the loss of your beloved Aunt Ethel.  We have been friends with Ethel for many years through St. Peter’s.  Last year we forgot Ethel’s birthday.  We called her the next day and wished her a Happy Belated Birthday.  She said not to worry she was going to be 98 all year!   We all got a great laugh!  Her wonderful sense of humor and her kindness to everyone was unmatched.  We will miss her very much!  Our loss is heavens gain.  Our deepest sympathies and love.

Ethel was not only a friend from St. Pete’s but a loving neighbor as well. She was positive and thankful for God’s blessings. She loved eating at Olive Garden with us-actually, any function with food was fun with Ethel there. I remember her and Phyllis rooting for the Phillies. They would stay on the phone & share time while watching the baseball games on tv together. We will miss her and our FaceTime chats. Heaven is richer with her there.

We cannot remember life before Ethel.  Ethel and our late mother Ruth became life-long friends in 1943, when they were classmates in nursing school.  So Ethel knew the Hasson siblings before we were born.  As children and adults, we eagerly anticipated visits between our family and Ethel and then Ethel and Farley.  Ethel and our mother were both avid Scrabble players.  Our first question to our mother after a visit was, "how many games did you play and how many did each of you win?"  Now we cannot imaging life without Ethel.
