Frederick Bradley Walters

Fred was born in north Philadelphia to Marie (Bradley) and Frederick Walters. Fred spent three and half years in the Navy and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania as a journalist. He began his career during his senior year with the Associated Press as a writer/reporter and, eleven years late, switched to broadcasting. Fred also worked for the American Broadcasting Company, Metromedia Broadcasting, and Westinghouse Broadcasting (which later merged into CBS).

To commemorate the nation's Bicentennial, he wrote and produced for the Westinghouse stations, in cooperation with the University of Pennsylvania, a series of twelve, one-hour programs (The Course of Human Events) that won the National Headliners Award for 1976. Fred was the editor at Westinghouse's KYW when they became an all-news station and were rated number one. Fred won many awards for his work including the Roy E. Morgan award for contributions to broadcast journalism in 2012 and was inducted into Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement in 2014.

Fred is survived by his wife, Lilian and their children, Bruce (Diane), Kevin, Kathy (Tony Cutri); Beth McKeown: grandchildren, Alisa, Megan (Josh Mason), J Bruce; Chris (Marissa), Bryan; Angie; Ethan, Lily; Michael, Steven and Jennifer: and great-grandchildren, Parker, Taylor, Noelle, Brooklyn, Hallie, Loran, Brittany, Tyler, and Sterling. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Brad.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Visitation 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children or any other charity of your choice.
