- Gene Gilmore Tatnall, 86, died Saturday night, July 21, at The Woods of Cedar Run with her daughter at her side. She was born in Williamsport to her parents, Dale and Rhea Gilmore. She moved to Harrisburg in 1936 and graduated from John Harris High School. She went on to attend Penn State University and earned a degree in Home Economics.
- In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles G. Tatnall, Jr. and her brother, Robert Gilmore. She is survived by three children: Robert C. Tatnall of Camp Hill, Karen T. Haack (Tom) of Camp Hill and James G. Tatnall (Tina) of Harrisburg. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren: Kristen Haack of Wilmington, DE; Michelle Haack of Charlotte, NC; Marci Tatnall of Harrisburg; Jennie Tatnall of Harrisburg; Hershel Underkoffler of Williamstown and Adrienne Daniels of Souderton. She also had four great grandchildren: Anna, Abby, Hershel and Amber.
- After raising her children, she went back to school and was a member of the first graduating class of the Nursing School at HACC. She worked as an RN for Harrisburg Hospital until her retirement. Her desire to care for others continued into retirement where she volunteered 40 hours per week. She was one of the three original nurse volunteers for Hospice of Central PA, served on the board and was honored in 2000 with the A. Thomas Andrews Founders Award in recognition of outstanding dedication, commitment and service. She also logged 5,500 hours as a volunteer for Harrisburg Hospital. Other volunteer activities included Contact Helpline and the Parish Nurse at Holy Spirit Hospital. She was a faithful member of Christ Presbyterian Church for 49 years and served on the Session and acted at the wedding planner.
- The family would like to thank the staff of the Memory Care Unit at the Woods and especially Hospice of Central PA for their care for our mother after her diagnosis of Alzheimer's.
- Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 27, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 421 Deerfield Road, Camp Hill. The family will receive friends from 11-1 at a reception in the church lobby, followed by the service at 1 PM. There will also be a service at The Woods, 824 Lisburn Road, Camp Hill on Sunday, July 29 at 7 PM.
- In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Mom's favorite charity, Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
