Harry Roat, IV, 90, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday evening, March 8, 2018, at Ecumenical Retirement Community. Born in Harrisburg and raised in Shipoke by his parents; the late Harry Roat III, and Viola May (Heagy). He was the loving husband of the late Thirsa (Snyder) Roat.
Harry graduated from John Harris High School in 1945. After high school, Harry was drafted by the Army and served a year, returning home when his mother suddenly passed away. After the service, he drove truck for Swift Meats and then worked for the Dauphin County School District. He retired at the age of 62, with ten years of service. While he was employed, he served for ten years with the PA National Guard and attained the rank of lieutenant. Harry was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Linglestown American Legion, Post 272.
Harry is survived by his granddaughter, Janell N. Roat, great grandson, John Tyler Roat, caregiver, Karen Weaver, nephew, Jim Snyder (Wanda), niece, Elaine Ondo (Jerry), and brother, Alan Roat. He was predeceased by his son, Dale S. Roat.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 15, 2018, at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4200 Londonderry Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17109. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service, at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, with full military rites conducted by the Dauphin County Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are being handled by Neill Funeral Home, Harrisburg.
