Born on October 13, 1928, in Williamstown, PA, Horace was the beloved son of Dora Fry and Horace V. Flynn. A proud 1946 graduate of the Hershey Industrial School (now Milton Hershey School), Horace remained an enduring figure and cherished legend within the MHS community.
Horace dedicated over 49 years to serving as the Secretary of the Harrisburg Chapter of the MHS Alumni Association, simultaneously holding the honorary role of Social Chair. In this capacity, he organized countless picnics, ball games, dinners, and community service projects, bringing together alumni and friends year after year. Known for his boundless kindness, Horace "adopted" numerous student homes, sharing birthday cards, words of encouragement, and a friendship that often continued into his students' adult lives.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked as a computer programmer for the Federal government at the Navy Depot and for the Commonwealth of PA before retiring to care for his wife.
Horace was an active and devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and his kindness extended throughout this community. Famous for his homemade "treated pretzels" and homemade candy, he freely shared these treats with neighbors and friends. His generosity and spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Horace was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemarie A. Flynn, whom he cared for faithfully for over 20 years, as well as his siblings and many close friends.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael J. (Kelly Smith), James H. (Donna Koch), and John G. (Mary), as well as three grandsons, Sean, Brendan, and Connor. All of whom carry forward his legacy of kindness and community.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church (4700 Locust Lane Harrisburg, PA 17109) on Friday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon to follow.
