December 22, 1941 – June 18th, 2024
Husband of Carol Beam
“Are you still mad at me?” This was James W. Beam’s favorite question, and he never failed to ask it when he wanted to spark up a conversation with someone. Born as the eighth of nine children, Jim, as he liked to be called, grew up on an Elverson farm, where he learned to drive at the age of 6. Eventually, he moved to Morgantown and graduated with the last class of the original local high school (Twin Valley). Jim served time in the military before returning home to marry the late Barbara Beam (2001). Together, they raised three children, and enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and spending time at the family summer cabin in Maryland. In 2010, Jim married Carol Beam, and together, they enjoyed traveling, taking many trips and splitting their time between New Holland and Florida. They also enjoyed spending time with their dogs.
In his career, Jim worked for 30+ years as technical support for the NCR corporation before retiring and working at Berks IU. He also was involved in numerous community service organizations. Jim never met a machine he couldn’t fix or a John Deere he didn’t like. As a die-hard sports fan, Jim loved cheering on all Philadelphia teams.
Jim is survived by wife Carol Beam (Burdy), daughter Christine Dubosky, her spouse Andrew, their children Alexander and Aryn; son Michael Beam; daughter Susan Cherie Beam and her spouse Michael Cotter; stepson Michael (Bud) and his spouse Debbie, their sons Michael and Matthew, and stepdaughter Cathy Linderman and her spouse Charles, and their son Daniel.
In addition to being predeceased by his first wife Barbara Beam (nee Shirk), Jim was also preceded in death by his father, William Beam, his mother, Ada Beam, his sister Susanna Snader, and his brothers Daniel Beam and Glenn Beam. Jim is also survived by brothers Omar Beam, Titus Beam, and Dale Beam, and sisters Arlene Eberly and Francis Gunzenhauser, along with a large family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, July 6th, at 2 p.m., at Garden Spot Village Chapel, New Holland, PA, with a luncheon to follow.
