James Edward "Ed" Ruth, 95, of Dillsburg, born March 6, 1930, went home to be at peace in his Heavenly Father’s arms on July 1, 2025. Ed was born and raised in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania where he graduated from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy Reserves starting in high school and later joined the Airforce as Airman 1st class (Airforce Police) of which he served from 1954 to 1957. He worked in his earlier years for the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Base and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Ruth, his daughter Crystal Titmas and her husband James Titmas, grandson James Holjes, great-grandsons Colby Ruth and his wife Angel, Anthony Smuro, Isaac Heinzig, and great-great granddaughter Baylynn Ruth. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Shelley (Ruth) Heinzig.
Ed deeply loved and cherished every moment with his family; a favorite was enjoying time with his grandson and great grandsons while they participated in football, baseball and wrestling events. TV sports, especially football, was a favorite, spending day and night with his wife enjoying the games. He spent years on his genealogy research, tracking down generations of family members, near and far. He loved his church and was very proud of the history he shared with past family members who were some of the original founding members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on July 17, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 117 West Keller Street, Mechanicsburg, PA. 17055.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Ft. Indiantown Gap for immediate family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to your local food bank.
