James Barry “Pappy” Snook passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 with his family around him.
He was born on February 22, 1938 in Yeagertown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lester Snook, his mother, Irma C. (Eastwood) Snook, his sister, Suzanne Naomi (Snook) Crist, and his brother, Sidney Eastwood Snook.
“Pappy” is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Sandra Lee (Goodling) Snook, and his brother Nicholas Marshall Snook (Betty). He has three children; Barry Scott Snook (Marian), Suzanne Renee Snook, and Kerri Ann (Snook) Twaddell (Edward); ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. In addition to this, there are many honorary family members that were important to him that he considered family.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Congregation, Middletown, where he served as a deacon. He was member of The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio for fifty-eight years. He gave freely of his time and energies to church-related support groups and The Middletown Historical Society.
After his family and friends, his greatest love was hunting and fishing. He traveled to Canada, Newfoundland, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota,, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Delaware, Colorado, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and of course, Pennsylvania, to hunt and fish. He also loved his sweets, especially chocolate shakes, candy and sticky buns (with nuts please). He enjoyed watching war movies, John Wayne movies, football, and hunting and fishing shows.
Barry had an uncanny knack for making friends. He could talk to the grumpiest person in the room, get them talking and smiling, and make them a friend for life. He made everyone feel special. He didn't know how to “put on airs” - he was simply honest and straightforward. He had a deep and abiding faith all his life, certain in his final destination with The Lord - where he is now. His parting words would be, (as they always were, all year round) - “Merry Christmas!”
The Snook Family would like to gratefully acknowledge his Hospice Team. They went above and beyond, always giving 110%. They helped us keep him comfortable, clean and content during this past year. Without them, the loving, peaceful transition he wanted would never have been possible. A big THANK YOU!!! to: Jennifer, Angelica, Heather, Felicity, Sarah, Denise, Cass, Aubrey, Misty, John and Chaplain Doug. You will never know the difference you have made for us. You have truly been a Godsend.
Services are Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 AM at the Presbyterian Congregation, 290 North Union St., Middletown, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the Snook Family requests memorial contributions be made in Barry's memory to The Presbyterian Congregation, 290 N. Union St., Middletown, PA 17057.
