
Dr. Jane B. (Baldwin) Shumway, 92, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Bethany Village. She leaves behind her husband, best friend, and love of her life, Dr. Clare Shumway, of 61 years of marriage.
She was born July 19, 1924 in Waterbury, CT, to the late Harold P. and Dorothy A. (Guise) Baldwin.
Jane graduated from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MD with her B.A.; Yale University, New Haven, CT with her M.D.; University of Rochester School of Medicine, Board of Pediatrics; and did her fellowship at University of Maryland, School of Medicine and Behavioral Pediatrics. She worked in Richmond, VA as Medical Director of the City Schools until she moved to Dillsburg where she entered private practice in Harrisburg and as a consultant to the Capital Area Intermediate Unit until she retired. Besides her love for children and science, Jane also loved nature and was an avid birdwatcher.
Surviving are her husband Clare; daughter Wendy Shumway; son Thomas Shumway; grandson Dylan Shumway; nephews David Baldwin, William Baldwin, Buzz Baldwin; and niece Pamela Easton. Including her parents, also preceding her in death are her siblings.
A memorial service will be held after the first of the year at the convenience of the family.
